Access News with MT-NewsWatcher

This article provides information on configuring the MacOS X usenet client - MT-NewsWatcher - to access Zen's news server at news.zen.co.uk.

This guide includes an example of how to locate a newsgroup and subscribe to it.

Setting up MT-NewsWatcher:

After installing MT-NewsWatcher (MT-NW) open the program by double-clicking the icon.

You will be presented with the welcome screen, as shown above.  Click Continue.

On the Setting screen enter the following information:

Now enter your name, an organisation (if posting on behalf of a company/group) and your E-mail address.

Click Done once you are happy with your entries.  MT-NW will now begin downloading a list of groups from the Zen news server.  Once done you can begin subscribing to groups you are interested in reading.

To find a group click Edit -> Find....

In the Search for box enter the name of the group (if you already know it) or key words.  In this example we have entered the group name zen.support.  Click Find.

The Find function will take you to groups which match your required.  Select Edit -> Find again if you wish to continue searching.  Otherwise, click on the group and drag it to the untitled window.  This will 'subscribe' you to the group.

Once you have dragged the group to the untitled window you will see the number of posts made in the subscribed group.  You can view posts by double-clicking the group name.

Before you close MT-NW you will need to save your groups file.  Do this by clicking File -> Save As....

Enter a name for your groups file and chose a location for the file to be saved.  Click Save.

NOTE: When you open MT-NW again you will need to open the groups file you have just saved in order to see your subscriptions.
